Antarctica tells the story of the epic Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition (1914-1917) led by Ernest Shackleton. The voyage on board the recently re-discovered ship, The Endurance, was a failure but such was the extraordinary courage and resilience of Shackleton and his crew that the expedition became a triumph. Antarctica vividly depicts the almost unbelievable conditions these men lived through, revealing the psychology behind the persistent urge that men at the time had to go on these extreme journeys despite the incredible odds against them during what became known as the Heroic Age of Antarctic exploration.
